Islamic State Mozambique ambushes goods convoy on the N380
Bottom line
Islamic State Mozambique (IS-M) militants fired on a civilian goods convoy on the N380 near Xitaxi, between Macomia-sede and Oasse, wounding two civilians.
On 9 January 2026, Islamic State Mozambique (IS-M) militants opened fire on a civilian goods convoy travelling along the N380 near Xitaxi, in the V Congresso locality, on the stretch linking Macomia-sede to Oasse in Cabo Delgado Province. Two civilians were wounded.
The N380 is Cabo Delgado’s main supply road. Attacks on goods convoys raise transport costs, delay food and fuel deliveries to the north of the province, and signal that the insurgency can still interdict the corridor despite security operations.
EWRAC rates the threat on the Macomia–Oasse stretch as Elevated and advises that convoys travel with escort, avoid predictable timings and report incidents promptly.
